RetireAustralia Coronavirus update: 22 May 2020

Published: 22 May 2020

Thanks for all your support as we worked our way through the first week of Phase 1 easing of restrictions.

You may have heard the Australian Government’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Professor Michael Kidd’s statement about COVID-19. He was very clear that while we can enjoy the easing of restrictions, we need to remain vigilant because COVID-19 continues to be a serious threat to our health.

People aged over 70 are still regarded as an at-risk group and are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19, and the virus is still out there.

So far we are not aware of a single case of COVID-19 in our villages. We want to keep it that way and maintain our communities as safe havens for you, our residents. We urge you to play it safe, keep your physical distance in public – ideally 1.5 metres – and regularly wash and dry hands thoroughly.

Also we encourage you to continue taking a conservative approach to trips out of the village and visitors to your unit or apartment. As far as possible keep your trips and visits to what is necessary.

And please remember, if you develop any symptoms of COVID-19 – including a fever, a sore throat, a cough, shortness of breath, tiredness or shortness of breath – you should call the Coronavirus health information hotline on 1800 020 080 or contact your doctor immediately. If you are unwell at all, please stay home.

If, for any reason, you need to be in isolation because of potential exposure to COVID-19 or if you are unwell, please let us know and we will help in any way we can, just as we have done up until now. We do not want anyone in our communities to take any risks.

We will continue to review restrictions and government announcements on a regular basis, and let you know about any changes.

Take care and stay safe.
