RetireAustralia COVID-19 update: Wellington Manor precautionary measures

Published: 31 July 2020

In light of the evolving situation regarding community transmission of COVID-19 in South Brisbane, we want to give you an update on the precautionary measures we are taking at Wellington Manor.

As you know, two people, who recently returned from Melbourne, and are now in hospital with COVID-19, have been circulating in South Brisbane. In response to this several locations have been closed for deep cleaning and contact tracing is underway. Additionally, the Queensland Government has taken the precautionary measure of implementing strict restrictions in all residential aged care in South Brisbane, including in Wellington Point, Cleveland and adjacent suburbs.

The situation is evolving and there are currently a lot of unknowns surrounding where these people have been and who they have been in contact with.

We are taking the risk seriously and doing everything we possibly can to ensure the village remains a safe haven for our residents.

In the short term, we strongly recommend that you take the following precautionary measures:

  • Stay at home as much as possible and limit travel and visits to what is essential.
  • Avoid travelling to, and accepting visitors from suburbs of heightened risk in South Brisbane
  • Keep track of your visitors by using the visitor log we recently provided you.
  • If you do have visitors, please ensure they do not access any community areas or facilities.
  • Discourage children under 16 from visiting.
  • Let your family and friends know they should not visit you unless it is essential.
  • If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 please contact your GP for advice.

RetireAustralia is also implementing precautionary measures:

  • Temporarily closing the community centre for sporting and social activities.
  • Implementing a checkpoint to screen people entering the village from Monday.
  • Postponing any non-essential maintenance.

We are monitoring this closely and will provide further updates as the situation evolves.

If you have any questions, please contact your Village Manager, Tina Saunders on 0447 749 472.

Stay safe and look after each other.
