Generous residents at Tarragal Glen Retirement Village have collected a bumper haul of goods to be donated to drought-stricken farming communities across the state.
The Erina community has spent two weeks gathering goods to donate.
Over 40 boxes and 50 large shopping bags of goods were collected to be delivered to rural communities this weekend.
Items included canned soup, biscuits, chocolate, cereal, sauces, pasta, rice, toiletries, pet food and children’s toys.
Tarragal Glen’s Activities Coordinator, Kerry Towler, said residents at the Central Coast community are always looking for ways to help those in need.
“The wonderful community spirit we have in the village has made such a great result possible,” she said.
“Residents and staff came together to do our bit for farming communities doing it tough.”
Almost 100% of New South Wales is now drought-affected with no clear end in sight, and many rural communities are doing it tougher than ever.
Collected items were delivered to Ray White Point Clare for distribution to rural areas.
Ray White’s Andrew Macdonald said the number of donations to his office had been incredible.
“I decided from the start that we would personally deliver what we collected, so as to be sure the farmers knew where the donations came from and that other Aussies had their back.”
Tarragal Glen residents and staff also made a number of cash donations to the appeal at the village’s recent Lifestyle & Care Connection Expo.
