Residents at Carlyle Gardens raised $1270 for the Queensland Cancer Council by taking part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
The event was part of a major annual drive to raise funds to fight cancer, and included a raffle, bring-a-plate morning tea, and a get-together of around 100 residents and friends.
Carlyle Gardens Chemist, Carlyle Convenience Store, and Scissors by the Sea Hair and Beauty generously donated raffle prizes to accompany residents’ donations of homeware items, cosmetics, bottles of wine, and many more.
Resident and event organiser Judy Wilkie said the success of the day was down to many residents contributing their time and skills.
“The donations from residents were overwhelming and I had wonderful help from my neighbour, Colleen Andrews, who wrapped the presents and made them look lovely,” Judy said.
“The amount we raised makes me think the event was well worth running.”
Village Manager Phill Sellwood said the event was a fantastic community effort.
“It was wonderful to see the community working together to achieve such a great result,” Phill said.
Last year’s Biggest Morning Tea raised $11.9 million nationally, and the Cancer Council aims to raise $13 million this time around.
Biggest Morning Tea events can be held anywhere in Australia throughout May or June.
