RetireAustralia has committed to sustainability by becoming a member of the Green Building Council of Australia.
The move sees the company aim to improve environmental efficiencies in its future developments, thus minimising its environmental footprint.
Founded in 2002, the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) is a not-for-profit authority on sustainable buildings, communities and cities.
Rob McDonald, RetireAustralia’s General Manager of Development and Acquisitions, said the company is committed to sustainable building practices in its growing portfolio of villages.
“Sustainability is something we take very seriously and want to be a major part of our building projects moving forward,” he said.
“This commitment is positive for the environment while setting us apart from other retirement village operators.”
The GBCA rates developments based on greenhouse gas emissions, water and electricity use, and construction waste, awarding a Green Star rating for buildings that meet the requirements.
Thirty per cent of office space in Australia is currently Green Star-rated.
RetireAustralia operates 27 villages across Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia that are home to over 5100 villas and apartments in total.
