Residents from nine villages across Adelaide and Port Lincoln acted to help Armidale’s Newling Gardens Retirement Village with their fundraising efforts.

Newling Gardens has raised over $12,000 in total, which will be doubled by Rotary.

RetireAustralia’s South Australian Events Coordinator, Anna Zinenko, praised residents’ efforts.

“When word got around that Newling Gardens was fundraising for drought relief and Rotary International was to match the amount, our residents jumped into action,” she said.

“The generosity of the residents in South Australia has been unbelievable.”

Glengowrie residents put their heads and wallets together and held a ticketed event with guest speakers, raising a phenomenal $900, which was topped up to an even $1000 with a donation from the village’s resident committee.

Wisteria Grove raised a cheery $600 at a happy hour and concert event last week.

A sausage sizzle at The Laurels Retirement Village at Mount Barker raised a searing $300, with donations still coming in thick and fast.

Lincoln Grove in Port Lincoln is donating $1 from every meal sold from their mouth-watering Wednesday night menu throughout August and September.

Bartonvale Gardens, Harwin and Magill have collection tins at their reception desks continuing to soak up gold coins, while Torrens Grove and Tea Tree Gardens have fundraising events planned for the coming weeks.

Up to 15% of South Australia is currently drought-affected, while in New South Wales the figure is closer to 100%.
