Boambee Gardens Retirement Village resident Pat Roser has dedicated her life to helping others less fortunate and has been recognised by Quota International of Coffs Harbour for her voluntary work.
Village Manager Pauline Pollock said she was thrilled to hear that Pat was crowned 2016 Coffs Harbour Quota Woman of the Year.
“Pat is an amazing lady and although her voluntary work keeps her busy, she still finds time to help us with our village newsletter,” Pauline said.
Pat’s relationship with Quota dates back to 1974 and since then she received the Coffs Harbour Volunteer of the Year Award in 2007.
It comes as no surprise that Pat was also awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2012.
“I got such a shock to receive the OAM. I felt so honoured but also a bit overwhelmed,” Pat said.
Pat is now a member of the Telecross program, run by the Red Cross, which aims to help lonely and isolated people through tough times.
“First thing in the morning, I ring elderly people at risk to chat and make sure they are coping by themselves,” Pat said.
“The call provides reassurance and it helps people to maintain their independence, which is so important to overall wellbeing.”
