Salisbury Bowling Club has further cemented its relationship with Harwin Retirement Village by naming its new $1.3 million undercover green after resident and long-term club member, Colin Pfitzner.
Colin is the longest-serving member of the club, becoming a life member in 1981, as well as serving as secretary for two terms of two years, president for two years, and greens manager for 15 years.
Harwin Retirement Village has sponsored the club for the past five years.
Colin, who joined the club in 1951 aged 25 and played in Division 1 for 20 years, said he was honoured to have the new facilities named after him.
“I feel humbled,” Colin said.
“I’m not an attention-seeker and I like to keep in the background, and it’s such an impressive structure.”
Colin, a resident of Harwin since 2015, has many fond memories of his time at Salisbury Bowls Club, with one in particular standing out.
“I once beat Frank Soars, NSW state champion, in the Australian Singles Championships!”
Salisbury Bowling Club President, Geoff Ambler, said it was Colin who talked him into taking up his current position.
“I have always looked to Colin as the father of the club,” Geoff said.
“He’s a great example of a dedicated club member.”
