The chance to be part of a close-knitted community was a major draw for Krista Schenkeveld when she moved to Toowoomba’s Drayton Villas.
The independent living resident made the transition to retirement in 2017 and has enjoyed getting involved in village life ever since.
“The community is just wonderful,” she said.
“I find there’s always someone to say hello to, which is lovely.”

“There’s so much going on that I can’t participate in everything,” Krista said.
“I do the pool activities, I play tennis and bowls – all the physical activities.
“There are small groups, large groups – everything!”
The village is set in a quiet, leafy area and is known for its welcoming ‘Homestead’ community centre, beautifully landscaped gardens, and iconic Southern Cross windmill.

“I love my villa,” Krista said.
“It’s just the right size as it’s not too small or too big.
“Moving here was the best thing I ever did – I wish I did it earlier!”
