Independent living resident Roz was presented with her award at the 21st September event at the Sage Hotel in Adelaide by Mrs Lan Le, wife of Governor Hieu Van Le.

Girl Guides SA says recipients of the Flowering Gum Award “deliver good service, demonstrate significant commitment to GGA, and are a role model to guides, volunteers, and the local community”.

Roz’s interest in the Girl Guides began when her children were members of the Brownies and Cubs.

She has held various roles over her years of service, including Assistant Registrar, State Treasurer, and District Commissioner for Salisbury, as well as helping with Scouts and Guides in the performing arts.

“It was a complete surprise when I received the phone call from the State Commissioner, Dawn Borchardt,” she said.

“I felt very honoured and humbled.

“It’s particularly special as my daughter, Louise, also received an award at the same event.”

Girl Guides SA was established in 1919 and currently has 2000 youth members and 500 volunteer leaders and adult members.

The organisation’s mission is to empower girls and young women to grow into confident, self-respecting and responsible community members.
