Murray Gardens turns 21

Mrs Bernice Snowden and Mr Doug Murphy cutting the cake

In March, Murray Gardens celebrated its 21st birthday. The village was officially opened on the 28th March 1998 by The Hon Timothy Fischer AC, then Deputy Prime Minister of Australia. At that time, the highway bypass was a contentious issue and hordes of protesters descended on the official village opening. It’s hard to imagine now the bypass has been in place for 21 years!

To celebrate our big birthday, we had a dinner with 200 residents, family and friends. Our longest-serving residents, Mrs Bernice Snowden and Mr Doug Murphy, cut the cake.
