Home care packages can help with a range of daily tasks from meal preparation to transport to personal care.
If you’re looking into government-funded home care for yourself or a loved one, you probably know the pathway to receiving a home care package can be complex.
RetireAustralia’s Care & Services Manager, Ebony Ranclaud, walks us through the steps.
1. Assess your support needs early
Look at your current and future support needs and decide whether a home care package is the right option for you.
“Home care provides flexibility and choice, which many people value, but it doesn’t suit everyone,” Ebony said.
“We can provide an obligation-free consultation to help you assess your needs.”
2. Apply for an ACAT assessment
An Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will visit your home to discuss your needs and assess how much assistance you need.
3. Complete an income assessment form
Income testing determines whether you will need to pay an Income Tested Care Fee in addition to a daily fee.
4. Eligibility for support
After the ACAT assessment, you will receive a letter advising you of the level of funded care you are eligible for and will be added to the National Wait List for a home care package.
5. Interim home care services
While on the waitlist, you may need to arrange interim support to support your needs until you start to receive government-funded services. RetireAustralia currently offers both government and resident-funded services in selected villages.
6. Receive your referral number
After this, you have 56 days to select your preferred care provider.
