No garden-variety entry for Michael

Bartonvale Gardens gardener Michael Promnitz is celebrating winning second prize in the Charles Sturt Council’s ‘Light Up Your Christmas’ competition.

The annual competition offers cash prizes to residents elaborately decorating their homes for Christmas.

Michael’s display included several Santas, reindeer, snowmen, a star, and a variety of decorative lights.

Having finished first in the competition in 2016, Michael said he was happy to bag another prize in 2017.

“I’ve been doing it for four years, firstly at my parents’ place,” he said.

“When I married Samantha and we got our own place it just got bigger from there.”

Bartonvale Gardens Village Manager Robyn Bennett said staff and residents enjoyed a trip to the Promnitz residence to take in the spectacle.

“A group of residents had a great time checking out the entries,” she said.

Winners were chosen by the public via the council’s social media page during a two-week period in December, with prizes for first, second and third place.

A random entry was also chosen to win a prize.

“I’m happy to have won first and second place in the two years I’ve had my own place,” Michael said.
