It didn’t take long for Ivan and Joan Hall to decide that Tea Tree Gardens was the perfect place for them.
In fact, it only took minutes.
“As soon as we walked into the village, we looked at each other and said, ‘This is home’,” Ivan said.
“We came into the office, had a good chat with the village manager, and that was that!”
The couple made the transition to retirement community living in September 2017 and they haven’t looked back since.
Ivan said the village’s staff are a major part of its appeal.
“They’re all very, very helpful – everyone’s been good,” he said.
“If there’s anything wrong with the unit, it’s fixed within a few hours.”
Being a part of a warm and welcoming community is another benefit to retirement village life.
“Everybody is very friendly,” Ivan said.
“At first, were shown around by the residents’ committee and, since then, we’ve met a lot of people.”
Located in Hope Valley in Adelaide’s north-west, Tea Tree Gardens is homely and traditional, “just like an old-fashioned English village,” according to village manager, Lucy Mulvany.
“It just feels like you’re always on holiday, basically,” Ivan said.
“I can’t explain it any other way.”
