When she made the move from Canberra to Glengara Retirement Village, Chicky Desmet was determined to get involved in village life as much as possible.
Over a year later, she has settled into her new surroundings and enjoys a busier social life than most.
“For me, moving to Glengara was a lifestyle choice,” she said.
“I wanted the activities, the community and the security – and I got them.”
The independent living resident is now a member of the social committee and takes part in a wide range of activities and events on offer at the Tumbi Umbi community.
“I bowl, I swim, I play cards, canasta and 500, I go to the games afternoons and the social club dinners, I play table tennis, and I’ve joined the craft group,” she said.
“I was concerned about retirement and was wondering what I was going to do with myself, but I’ve built up a lot of friendships and social groups here.”
Glengara has been a premier retirement living option on the Central Coast for 20 years, and is known for its friendly atmosphere, luxurious Country Club, resort-like facilities, and convenient location next to Mingara Recreation Club.
For Chicky, it’s the ultimate retirement lifestyle.
“If I paid to go to a resort, I’d be looking for a swimming pool, some activities, nice surroundings and things to do, and I’ve got that every day at Glengara!”
