Determined to raise the flag

More than a decade ago, the Spring Grove Resident’s Committee were donated an Australian flag for their first ANZAC day breakfast in 2002.

“At the time, the committee also wanted to buy a flag pole, but the project was put on the ‘back burner’ as being too expensive.

“Meanwhile we raised the flag, albeit sideways, from the veranda of the community centre.”

“Over time, and with the help of Thomas who is the Spring Grove Maintenance Coordinator, the resident’s committee raised enough funds to buy a flagpole,” Peter said.

Peter and Denise Patterson were among the first residents to move into Spring Grove Retirement Village almost 15 years ago.

“We love the location of Spring Grove as we can open the security gate at the rear, straight onto Linear Park and the O-bahn Bus service is just 10 mins away – location, location, location!” Peter says.

“We thought it was only fitting to raise a glass as we proudly raised the flag for the first time.”
