Last Thursday evening the residents at Belrose Country Club Retirement Village came together for a festive extravaganza to celebrate ‘Oktoberfest’.
The famous German festival, which originated in 1810, is traditionally a time for having fun, dancing and eating and Belrose residents honoured the occasion in style.
The Clubhouse lounge was decorated in a traditional Bavarian spirit and residents dined on a delicious meal of crumbed pork steak with apple & onion jus, bratwurst mash and sauerkraut, followed by black forest torte with raspberry coulis and ice-cream, whilst enjoying live jazz entertainment and a raffle.
The occasion was just one of many regular ‘theme’ events at Belrose Country Club. Every six weeks residents are invited to attend a different festive evening of dancing, dinner, drinks and costumes and each year there is a very popular ‘St Patrick’s Night’ and ‘Christmas in July’ dinner.
Norma Allerding, a resident in one of Belrose Country Club’s serviced apartments, who moved in because she felt “tired of living alone and looking after myself”, says she greatly looks forward to the village’s social events.
“Theme nights are one of my favourite aspects of living at the village!,” she exclaims.
Now that the ‘Oktoberfest’ dinner is over, Belrose staff are busily beginning preparations for the next big event.
“In November we will be hosting a two course, Melbourne Cup luncheon with champagne,” explains Belrose’s Activities Coordinator, Louise Taylor.
“We will have a large screen for residents to watch the big race on as well as a fashion parade and prizes for Best Dressed Male, Best Dressed Female and Best Hat!”
