Bookworms make great librarians

With a lifelong love of reading fiction novels, Daphne Walker-Smith can often be found thumbing her way through books in the library at Noyea Riverside Retirement Village.
When Daphne moved into Noyea Riverside almost five years ago her partner joked that the avid bookworm would make an excellent librarian, so she signed up as a volunteer.
“I enjoy organising the village library books and it’s a great way to meet other residents,” Daphne says.
Daphne says being a volunteer is very rewarding and she is quite content to sort through a range of books that are donated to the library by residents.
“If we have a few copies of the same book we donate them to charities.”
The library is categorised using the Dewey system, which means that new books can be added to the library in their appropriate location based on subject rather than the date that they were acquired.
“Daphne is our village librarian ‘one and only’ who never asks for help,” Village and Sales Admin Assistant, Linda Thompson says.
“She loves being a volunteer and does an amazing job of it.”
