Bringing art to life

Murray Gardens is abuzz with excitement as preparations begin for the premiere of their inaugural art exhibition.

Self portrait by Holger Christen
With a passion larger than life, renowned international artist Holger works with a range of mixed media styles.
“I enjoy working across different mediums such as painting, sculpture, woodcuts, jewellery and digital photo imaging,” Holger said.
Holger’s works include an abstract combination of paint, texture and colour that transforms some of his art into striking lifelike portraits.
“It’s awesome work and because the portraits are of well-known celebrities, from Meryl Streep to Daniel Craig, it’s art that people can connect with,” Village Manager Anne Jack said.
Holger’s work is influenced by Picasso, Volka, Brett Whiteley, Del Kathryn Barton, Pascale Pratte and Francoise Nielly… just to name a few.
When asked what would life be like without art, Holger responded, “Like a world without colour!”
“My biggest challenge before I retired was to balance work with what I loved doing most – art!” Holger said.
Since moving to Murray Gardens, retirement has given Holger the freedom to dedicate more time to painting.
“Living in such a wonderful worry-free environment also enables me to travel and explore the surrounding areas and art world,” Holger said.
“It will be a fantastic event and I encourage any interested art lovers to come along and discover art at the gardens,” Anne said.
The exhibition is open to the public from 6pm to 9pm, 9th December 2016 to 31st January 2017 in the Murray Gardens community centre.
