Logan City Council’s Lord Mayor presents Ep with a finalist award
Volunteering and sharing skills come naturally to some and Noyea Riverside Retirement Village resident Ep Lammers is no exception.
Having previously spent some time mentoring youth at the Beenleigh Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC), for the past 12 months Ep has been a volunteer with the Logan PCYC.
The PCYC is an award-winning program designed to increase employment opportunities, community connection and skills with programs such as driver education for adolescents.
Ep is helping learner drivers who don’t have access to a supervisor or a registered vehicle to complete their logbook hours.
The Logan PCYC Program Coordinator, Em Crooks says that Ep’s valuable mentoring and insight is providing a positive role model for Logan youth.
“We often see that mentors like Ep build a relationship with local teenagers because they identify with them, like extended family members,” Em says.
“Having had the pleasure of working with Ep over the past nine months, it was important for me as the program coordinator to recognise Ep’s efforts and achievements over the years.
“The opportunity arose with the Logan Loves Volunteers Awards and I nominated Ep for the Frank Lenz Memorial Award.
“Ep dedicates many hours to volunteering and his enthusiasm is contagious. Without people like Ep, we would not be able to function.
“He is a great character who always greets people with a cheeky smile!
“I was delighted when Ep was a finalist. I take my hat off to Ep, and from the bottom of my heart I thank him for his contribution to Logan PCYC and to my life,” says Em.
Logan PCYC and Braking the Cycle are always on the lookout for great volunteers and mentors. If you’d like to help to volunteer or find out more, contact the PCYC on 3909 9555 or visit http://www.pcyc.org.au.
