Stripes, berets, and furs were all en vogue at the fabulous French-themed evening held by the Glengara Social Committee earlier this month.
145 residents came along dressed in their Parisian finest to enjoy an evening of dancing, drinks and entertainment, along with a feast of traditional French cuisine.
Guests enjoyed chicken and mushroom crepes, beef bourguignon and coq au vin, finishing with a delicious dessert of chocolate profiteroles.
“We have caterers who came in and did the food – it was really lovely,” says Dianna Shields, the Chairperson of the Glengara Social Committee.
Dianna and the committee joined forces with fellow resident and former hotel events organiser Janice Thompson to bring the event, which was inspired by a love of France, to life.
Janice says, “My husband and I have travelled a lot to France – we’re actually going on a cruise in September and October.”
To suit the theme, the Glengara Country Club was meticulously decorated in blue, white and red with balloons, silk flowers, and even a wrought iron bicycle hung with baguettes.
The highlight of the evening, both Dianna and Janice agree, was being entertained by three young talented cancan dancers, who were sourced from a local dance studio.
The French night was the latest in a string of unique events thought up by the pair, along with the other members of the Social Committee.
“We try to come up with different themes,” Dianna says.
Janice agrees, “I think it’s good to introduce new things – you can’t just keep doing the same things over and over again!”
All in attendance agree that it was a marvellous night and a wonderful chance to get dressed up and enjoy a laugh.
“We had an absolute ball – it was wonderful,” Janice and Dianna say.
“We had the time of our lives!”
