Glengowrie steps back to country and western

A nostalgic nursery rhyme came to life recently as Old Macdonald’s Farm turned Glengowrie Retirement Village into a fairground.
More than 80 residents turned country and western as they had fun with real cuddly animals such as goats, lambs, ducks, rabbits and chickens in the village community centre.
Some of the residents dressed up as farmers with fancy cowboy hats, boots and flannelette shirts, as they vied for best dressed with a bottle of bubbly as prize.
Other residents and their grandchildren were content to wander around the fairground playing coconut shy, tin throwing and trying their luck at horseshoe tossing.
After a delicious roast dinner, there was musical entertainment and a square dancing demonstration.
It didn’t take long before the resident farmers kicked up their heels and started to dance to familiar country tunes.
“Everyone had a wonderful time. Our community centre was a hive of activity with farm animals, hay bales and all things country,” Village Manager Debbie Dean says.
“It was a trip down memory lane. Even as adults we remember rhymes and this was a way of bringing a favourite childhood nursery rhyme to life!”
