The book, entitled Memories, is a sequel to the popular Reflections collection published in 2012.
Village Manager Chiquita Walsh said the original was so popular that a second collection was called for.
“The first book sold out almost immediately and we had a fantastic launch party,” Chiquita said.
“Our residents have led such varied and interesting lives, and it’s wonderful to be able to get to know people better through the book.”
The latest collection consists of 42 stories by 30 authors, coming close to 100 pages in total.
Resident Audrey Davidson collated stories for Reflections, and has been instrumental in collecting material for the upcoming release.
“It started when I was organising day trips and I got to thinking that a lot of people in retirement villages have stories, memories and reflections that should be written down,” Audrey said.
“One of them is by a guy who was in the Navy during the War and landed on a small Greek Island which was supposedly uninhabited.
“He encountered an old shepherd, who got him drunk on homemade wine, and to avoid the charge of being drunk on duty he had to tell the captain he had eaten fermented fruit by accident!”
The book will be printed at the end of September, with a launch party at Murray Gardens pencilled in for mid-October.
