The community at Murray Gardens Retirement Village is always eager to support a good cause and Tuesday’s Pink Ribbon morning tea was no exception.
Dressed in vivid pink, the village staff served a delicious spread of pink cupcakes, Iced VoVos and sweets to over 50 residents, family members and guests.
Local businesses including Beacon Lighting and Locky’s Countryside Meats also donated prizes for a raffle.
Through ticket sales and plenty of generous donations, the event raised over $700 for Cancer Council NSW, which will go towards the prevention of breast and gynaecological cancers.
Village Manager Anne Jack says, “We all feel very passionately about this cause with many of us having been affected by these cancers, whether directly or through our loved ones.”
“We’re more than happy to do our part in raising money and awareness and are thrilled with the results we achieved as a community.”
Support for the event even spread beyond the local area, with a group of staff and residents from Riverina Gums, Murray Gardens’ sister village, travelling the 120 kilometres from Wagga Wagga to attend.
Last year, thousands of Pink Ribbon events held across Australia helped to raise over $5 million to fund support services and cancer research.
Every little bit counts towards this year’s total and will help to make a significant difference to someone’s life.
“If our donation helps one woman who is suffering, it will be completely worth it,” Anne says.
