Discovering good health and wellness

In October, Lincoln Grove hosted a health and wellness expo as part of the 2016 Every Generation Festival.

Lincoln Grove Manager Sue Altermann said the event featured tai chi demonstrations and a range of informative displays from pharmacists, physiotherapists, hearing specialists and mobility equipment suppliers.
“The expo was a great avenue for retirees to meet local specialists and learn more about improving their health and wellbeing,” Sue said.
“It was also a great opportunity to let the community know about the professional services on offer in Port Lincoln and the importance of healthy eating, exercise and living well as we age.”
In 2006, Lincoln Grove introduced tai chi classes and they are proving to be very popular with residents who prefer gentle exercising to keep mobile.
“The residents are building up their strength gradually and it’s having a positive impact on their health and wellbeing,” Sue said.
At 94 years young, Lincoln Grove Retirement Village resident Ev Griffiths, is a regular at the twice-weekly tai chi classes that are held in the community centre.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing sport but never had time to think about exercising,” Ev said.
“I thought I’d try tai chi and I absolutely love it!
“We have a lot of laughs and that’s all part of the enjoyment!”
Ev moved into Lincoln Grove 11 years ago and said she likes her active lifestyle.
“There’s so much going on in the village.
“As well as tai chi, I play bingo and card games and we have regular morning teas, which is great for mixing with the other residents. I’m very happy here!” Ev said.
