Century of life celebrated at Drayton Villas!

Postle Party 004
Drayton Villas Retirement Village resident Dorrie Postle celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this month, and the milestone event was the perfect opportunity to show just how beloved she is within her family and local community.
The celebrations drew an impressive crowd of 110 relatives and friends, many of whom travelled from Brisbane, Melbourne or Canberra to be part of the special event.
“It was quite a party!” Dorrie says.
The afternoon tea, organised with the help of village manager Greg Droney, was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the conclusion of Dorrie’s first century.
Even Bill Hazel, the now-retired former village manager, stopped by the party to pass along his birthday wishes.
“Bill always said that he’d be back for my 100th and I didn’t think he’d remember, but he came!” she says.
Dorrie, who sadly lost her husband Jim at just 60 years old, has lived at Drayton Villas for nearly 16 years and views the village community as an extended family.
“I love it here – wouldn’t live anywhere else.”
Many of the village residents were present at Saturday’s party to help her celebrate her birthday, in addition to her two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
“You should see my dining room – the table is covered with flowers!” she says.
“I have a very good family – they’ve been wonderful to me.”
Dorrie also received congratulatory messages from Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Toowoomba’s mayor, Paul Antonio.
As for how her second century is treating her in the wake of all the celebrations, Dorrie says that she’s content.
“I don’t get around as much as I used to, but I still go to Legacy when I’m not too tired.”
“I’ve had quite a good life!”
