Fitness regime improves coordination and balance

Residents at Tarragal Manor Retirement Village are working out and reaping the benefits of a regular exercise program.
Recreational Activity Officer Kerry Towler puts the residents through a daily fitness routine that includes seated and standing exercises and a range of stretches.

“To add some variety into the program, I have included some exercises that were suggested by Matthew Hodgson, a local chiropractor,” Kerry says.
“It’s an overall fitness program that improves coordination and balance which in turn, helps to prevent falls.”
The 35-minute seated and standing exercise program is proving very popular.
As well as the daily workout, Kerry likes to organise guest speakers to inspire the residents.
“The speakers are motivating and they share a few tips with the residents about maintaining a regular fitness program.”
“The group are so confident with their routine that if I get called away they can continue on without me!”
Exercise is ideal for people of all ages as it helps to maintain your core balance, increase strength and improve fitness and wellbeing.
The exercise classes are held at 10am in Tarragal Manor’s recreation room every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday followed by a cuppa and a biscuit. Everyone is welcome and no need to book an appointment.
