Enjoying life at Murray Gardens

It was eighteen years ago this month that Doug Murphy moved into his care apartment at Murray Gardens, and he has been enjoying the friendly and social atmosphere since.

Having moved to the village in August 1999, Doug has watched, and been a part of, the village growing into the supportive and secure community it is today.
“There were only about 12 units when I moved in and now there are 33,” Doug said.
“You get to meet a lot of people from different backgrounds and the staff are good – they look after us really well.”
Murray Gardens Sales Manager Anne Jack said Doug is a much-loved and valued resident, and one who is never shy of mucking in and helping staff.
“Every afternoon and evening he helps the staff clear tables and re-set for the next meal, and he helps in the hair salon,” Anne said.
“He is great – an absolute support to all the staff.”
Doug spent his working life in the rail industry between Forbes and Albury, before moving to live with his daughter in Melbourne, and then returning to Albury.
Living at Murray Gardens means Doug can be near family, whom he sees regularly.
“I’ve got a daughter and her family in Albury and I see her every week,” he said.
“I see her every Saturday when we go shopping.”
Doug is comfortably settled at Murray Gardens, having known from the start it was the right place for him.
“I tried other places before I moved in here and they didn’t suit me,” he said.
“It’s been really good here and I’ve enjoyed it.”
