COVID-19 update Greater Sydney | 29 July

Published: 29 July 2021

I’m sure you all know that the Greater Sydney lockdown has been extended for another four weeks, to the end of August. There are also some changes to restrictions which will bring some relief to those of us who are struggling with the extended isolation.

You can see a full list of the updated restrictions on the NSW Health website, or you can call your Village office for more details.

What this means for village life

Lockdown is set to continue for at least another four weeks. All the current rules remain in place, with a few exceptions:

From midnight on 28 July:

  • Greater Sydney residents must limit their shopping to within their Local Government Area (LGA) or if outside their LGA within 10km of their home.

From midnight on Saturday, 31 July:

  • The NSW Government has introduced a ‘singles bubble’ which allows people who live alone to nominate one person to visit for companionship. Please note that it has to be the same person and they cannot be from one of the eight LGAs of concern. You need to provide the name of your nominated buddy to your Village Manager and they will be noted at the village checkpoint.
  • Construction and refurbishments will re-start where there are no residents on-site and with a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place.
  • Cleaning, gardening and maintenance will re-start with zero contact with residents.

To protect our village communities, any workers, contractors and visitors from the eight identified LGAs of concern will not be able to enter our villages. Those LGAs are Fairfield, Canterbury-Bankstown, Georges River, Parramatta, Liverpool, Blacktown, Cumberland and Campbelltown.

We’re all in this together

We understand what a difficult time this is for residents, especially those who live alone. If you or a loved one would like a regular phone call from us to check-in and have a chat, we have a team of staff at the ready who would love to talk to you.  Also, if you would like a hand with grocery shopping, accessing medication or perhaps a meal service, please call your Village Manager.

We genuinely do understand how hard this extended lockdown is – many of us have not been able to see our families and friends for the last five weeks.

We also understand how important it is that we all do the right thing. We’re at a critical point in our battle to contain the Delta variant and right now, the only way out of lockdown is if we all make sacrifices and follow the rules.

We’ll keep you updated on any changes when they are announced.
