RetireAustralia COVID-19 update: Precautionary measures at Adelaide and Mt Barker villages

Published: 16 November 2020

In light of the evolving situation regarding COVID-19 in the northern suburbs of Adelaide we want to give you an update on the precautionary measures we are taking in our Adelaide and Mt Barker retirement villages.

What is happening?
The government has announced that as of the morning of 16 November 2020, 17 people in North Adelaide have tested positive for COVID-19.

We are taking the risk seriously and doing everything we possibly can to ensure our villages remains a safe haven for our residents and team members.

How is RetireAustralia responding?
We’re implementing the following precautionary measures in our Adelaide and Mt Barker villages:

  • Temporarily postponing all social and sporting activities in the village.
  • Temporarily closing the community centre for all activities and non-essential visits.
  • Closing dining rooms to non-care apartment residents.
  • Independent Living residents who usually have meals in the dining room will have their meals delivered to their home.
  • Implementing checkpoints to screen people visiting care apartments.
  • Where possible implementing checkpoints to screen people entering villages.
  • Pausing sales appointments and refurbishments in care apartments.

In the short term, we strongly recommend that residents take the following precautionary measures:

  • Stay at home as much as possible and limit travel and visits to what is essential
e.g. personal/ home care, to get food, groceries, medication and to go to important healthcare appointments.
  • Let your family and friends know they should not visit you unless it is essential.
  • Keep track of your visitors by using the visitor log.
  • Please ensure your visitors do not access any community areas or shared village facilities.
  • Discourage children under 16 from visiting.
  • If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 please contact your GP for advice and let your Village Manager know

We are here to help

If you have any questions or concerns, please call your Village Manager directly.

We are monitoring this closely and will provide further updates as the situation evolves.

Take care and stay safe.
