The couple, who have three children, three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, plan to celebrate with a small family gathering.

Joy spent over four decades working in an orthopaedic surgery and GP practice, while Andy rose through the ranks to become a factory foreman and manager.

Torrens Grove village manager, Kaye Coats, said everyone at the village is delighted for the couple and their reaching such a milestone.

“Joy and Andy are a lovely couple and we’re looking forward to helping them celebrate this fantastic occasion,” she said.

The happy couple has been pawsitively loving life since making the move to Torrens Grove seven years ago with their six-year-old Maltese-Shih Tzu-Cavalier King Charles cross, Kouta.

The pet-friendly policy at the Kilkenny community made it easy for the pair to make the move without having to part with their precious pooch.

Since then, they have enjoyed many benefits of being a part of a close-knit group of residents and staff, with Joy even founding a resident social club.

“We weren’t all that close to our neighbours in our previous home, but here even our mail is collected by our neighbours when we’re away,” Joy said.

“Also, everyone was absolutely wonderful when Andy went into hospital 18 months ago.”
