Frequently Asked Questions
RetireAustralia has 10 retirement communities across South Australia:
- Adelaide (9 villages): Spread across the metropolitan area from the beachside suburbs (Glengowrie, Scarborough Mews in Somerton Park) through to the inner suburbs (Kilkenny/Torrens Grove, Bartonvale in Enfield, Wisteria Grove in Broadview, Spring Grove in Klemzig, Magill), northern suburbs (Hope Valley/Tea Tree Gardens) and the Adelaide Hills (The Laurels in Mount Barker).
- Port Lincoln: Lincoln Grove, a seaside village overlooking Boston Bay on the Eyre Peninsula.
With the largest number of communities in any single state, there’s an option to suit a wide range of locations, lifestyles and budgets across South Australia.
Across South Australia, RetireAustralia offers:
- Independent living villas and units: Spacious 1, 2 and 3-bedroom homes with open-plan layouts, private courtyards or gardens, and age-friendly design features. Available across all 10 communities.
- Serviced apartments: Purpose-built apartments for residents who want independent living with more day-to-day support, including meals, housekeeping and maintenance. Available across most Adelaide villages and at Lincoln Grove in Port Lincoln.
Availability varies by village, so check the page for your preferred community or get in touch directly.
RetireAustralia’s South Australian villages operate under a leasehold model rather than a rental arrangement. You pay an entry payment for the right to occupy your home under a long-term lease. The team at your preferred village can explain the financial details and what the commitment involves.
Pets are welcome at the majority of RetireAustralia’s retirement villages across South Australia. Most villas include private courtyards or gardens, giving pets space to enjoy. Some guidelines apply around the types of pets suited to village life, so it’s worth checking with your preferred community for the specifics.
If a coastal lifestyle appeals to you, several RetireAustralia communities are well-positioned. In Adelaide, Glengowrie is just minutes from the beaches at Holdfast Bay, and Scarborough Mews in Somerton Park is a short walk from Glenelg and Brighton beaches.
Torrens Grove is also a short drive from the coast. In Port Lincoln, Lincoln Grove overlooks Boston Bay and is 5 minutes from the beach and foreshore.
Several Adelaide villages are within easy reach of the city centre. Magill is just 7km from the CBD, Bartonvale in Enfield is 9km away, and villages like Torrens Grove, Wisteria Grove and Spring Grove are all in Adelaide’s inner suburbs.
These locations offer a quiet, community-focused setting with convenient access to the city’s shopping, dining, health care and cultural attractions.
Yes. The Laurels is located in Mount Barker, a charming Adelaide Hills town around 33km from the CBD. Set within a heritage-listed property, it offers a peaceful, village-style retirement lifestyle in one of South Australia’s most scenic regions.
Mount Barker has its own shops, dining and medical services, while the Adelaide CBD is accessible via the South Eastern Freeway.
Costs vary between villages and home types. Generally, you’ll pay an entry payment along with ongoing service fees covering maintenance, insurance, rates and access to shared facilities.
Service fees are set on a cost-recovery basis, meaning RetireAustralia cannot profit from them. A management fee applies when you leave, capped at 35% of your entry price. Contact the village you’re interested in to request a specific quote.
You can browse all 10 South Australian communities on the RetireAustralia website, view available homes and request a quote online. Village tours are a great way to see any community in person before making any decisions.
Call 1300 687 738 or contact your preferred village directly through its page on the RetireAustralia website.
Most RetireAustralia villages in South Australia are designed for independent living; they’re retirement villages, not aged care. However, if your needs change, support is available:
- Serviced apartments at selected villages, including Lincoln Grove in Port Lincoln, offer independent living with more support, including meals, housekeeping and maintenance.
- Support at Home services are available across all SA villages, providing household help, personal care and nursing, either privately funded or through government-funding via the Support at Home program.
The team at each village can explain which care options apply.
A member of our friendly team will get in touch in 1-2 business days.
