For Torrens Grove resident Lee Ward, there’s simply no comparison between her retirement village lifestyle and her old home in the suburbs.
Lee moved to the Kilkenny retirement community in 2013 with her husband, Tom, and hasn’t looked back once.
The connected, maintenance-free way of life has improved her situation greatly, she said.
“Where would I be, if I was still in the suburbs, trying to maintain the house and garden?” she said.
“I’m grateful every day for our decision to move to Torrens Grove.”
A 2017 study of retirement villages showed they provide many benefits to residents, including increased social interaction and security: findings with which Lee would tend to agree.
“I have the company of many people when I need it, but if I decide to have quiet time, my home is very comfortable and welcoming.”
Offering both independent living units and care apartments, Torrens Grove is known for its busy social calendar.
“The village is our home, and I try to attend as many things as possible,” Lee said.
“We have theatre outings, bus trips, movie days, Tai chi and exercise classes, sausage sizzles, bingo, seed planting, cupcake making, and international nights in the Grove Tavern.
“Plus, we have annual functions on Anzac Day, Australia Day and Christmas in July.”
