Scarborough Mews resident Peter Sandercock has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community and Rotary International.
Peter has held a number of leadership positions at Rotary International since 1988, including District Governor, Chair, District Secretary, Coordinator and others.
He has been a Justice of the Peace for 35 years, a life member of Sacred Heart Old Collegians Association, and has volunteered for the Hutt Street Centre and Glenelg Catholic Parish.
Peter was given the award on Australia Day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“Receiving the honour was certainly a surprise and a humbling experience,” he said.
Scarborough Mews Village Manager Debbie Dean said everyone at the village was delighted for Peter.
“Peter has given so much to the community over the years and we are so happy his work has been recognised with the OAM,” she said.
“It’s very well deserved.”
After spotting an advert by chance in 2016, Peter made the move to Scarborough Mews.
“It was perhaps good fortune that I sighted the advert and, on inspecting the property, realised it met all that I required,” he said.
“It also met with unanimous approval from the family.
“I have enjoyed the company of other residents who warmly welcomed me in to the community, and I have also been very impressed with the staff, whom I have regular contact with.”
