COVID-19 update: Greater Sydney and Central Coast lockdown

To protect the people of NSW from the evolving COVID-19 outbreak, the current stay at home order has been expanded to all of Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour until Friday, July 9.

What does the lockdown mean?

The restrictions are the same ones in placed earlier in the year.

Greater Sydney and Central Coast residents can only leave their home for the following reasons:

  • Shopping for food or other essential goods and services.
  • Medical care or compassionate needs.
  • COVID-19 vaccination (unless you have been identified as a close contact) and testing.
  • Work or education, where you cannot work or learn from home.
  • In an emergency.

People are not permitted to enter the LGAs unless they are dropping off food, medication or other essential goods or services or to fulfil carer’s responsibilities.

Public gatherings are limited to two.

Additionally, masks must be worn on public transport and in indoor public settings e.g. the supermarket.

What does this mean for our Greater Sydney and Central Coast Villages?

We acknowledge that these restrictions are incredibly hard, however, given the elevated risk it is important that we all do the right thing and work together to keep our communities safe in line with the NSW Government advice.

RetireAustralia has already implemented precautionary measures:

  • The community centre and common facilities will be closed and all activities are cancelled.
  • Village checkpoints are in place.
  • Only essential visits will be accepted into the village:
    • To deliver personal care, medication, food and groceries.
    • For compassionate reasons.
    • No children under 16.
  • Property inspections have been cancelled and only essential maintenance will take place.
  • All staff and essential workers are required to wear masks indoors.
  • The village bus will still operate essential grocery shopping trips: bookings are essential, residents must socially distance and wear a mask.

What does this mean for residents?

  • Please only leave your home if it is absolutely necessary.
  • Ask friends and family if they can drop off food and groceries for you.
  • Contact your local pharmacy to arrange medication deliveries.
  • Wear a mask if you leave your home.
  • Practice social distancing.
  • If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 get tested and let your Village Manager know.

We are here to help

If you have any questions or concerns, or need any help, please call your Village Manager directly.

In particular, if you are unclear of the restrictions or need help accessing groceries, medication, your GP or masks, please call your Village Manager.

We are monitoring this closely and will provide another update on Friday 9 July, if not before.
