COVID-19 update – Greater Sydney lockdown extended

Published: 15 July 2021

As we’re sure you’re already aware the lockdown, originally scheduled to end this Friday, has been extended for at least another two weeks in Greater Sydney.

This means the restrictions currently in place across Greater Sydney including the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour will remain in place until at least 11:59pm on Friday 30 July.

We want to reassure you that:

  • None of our village staff live in the Fairfield local government area, which many of you will know is an area facing high numbers of COVID-19 cases.
  • Our staff conduct a health-check before work each day and at our care apartment villages they are also temp checked daily.
  • Many of our staff are full or partially vaccinated, while others are on the waiting list to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
  • We follow strict infection control protocols including wearing appropriate PPE (masks, aprons, gloves etc) when providing care and support to our residents.
  • Contractors conducting essential maintenance or refurbishments are subjected to strict COVIDSafe protocols before they are allowed on site.
  • In line with government restrictions, and in very limited circumstances when the only accommodation option available to new residents is in one of our villages, we are facilitating move-ins with very strict COVIDSafe protocols in place.

Please stay at home

Yesterday ten residents of a village were required to isolate and get tested for COVID-19. This is because a resident had unfortunately been grocery shopping at the same time as someone who subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. In turn, an additional nine residents are getting tested and self-isolating because of their close contact with the first resident.

It is really important that we all limit our contact with other households. We understand that it’s tough, but socialising isn’t a reasonable excuse to have visitors or to leave your unit or apartment.

We are only allowed to leave home for four reasons: essential shopping; work and education (if it can’t be done from home); medical, care and compassionate reasons; and exercising.

By observing these rules, you are protecting others living in your village community, and helping ensure the lock down doesn’t last any longer than is necessary.

We are here for you

If you have any questions or need assistance, please call your Village Manager.

We appreciate your ongoing understanding and support. Every resident and team member in our villages has a crucial role to play in protecting our safe havens from COVID-19, and we want to thank you for the contribution you are making to that effort.
